The Number One Requirement for Achieving Success

Everyone is looking for the secret to achieving their dreams.  The one idea or act that will help them conquer all their obstacles.  Well, there is a “secret” that everyone knows, but not everyone practices.

It’s called Selling.

If you can’t sell yourself on getting out of bed, then you will miss out on life.  If you can’t sell yourself on losing weight, then you will always be out of shape.  If you can’t sell your boss on getting a raise, then you will be in the same financial situation as the year before.

Everything in life requires selling.  Everything.

Selling is an art.  To sell well, requires constant focus.  Just like losing weight or anything worth achieving in life, you have to be willing to do the work.  Too many people live life like a lottery game.  They are just hoping that one day everything will come together.  Well…life doesn’t work like that.  If you are hoping that things will change, then you have to be willing to change them.  Take control of your life.

Selling is used everyday by children, who are looking to get something from their parents.  Selling is used by doctors, who have to convince their patients to get better.  Selling is used by teachers who have to persuade their students to do their homework or study for a test.  We are selling ourselves everyday in everything we do.

If you want to offer life more, then learn the art of selling, persuading, convincing or whatever other word you want to call it.  Selling will always be a part of our lives.  We just have to realize it and know how to use it.

Fighting Greatness – by Brad Rhame

What is one of the first things we do when we get out of bed? Yes…we head towards the bathroom, but what is one of the main things we do once we are in the bathroom? It has to do with a mirror. Yes, that’s right. We look at ourselves. And why do you suppose that is? Are we hoping to have perfect hair? What about sleep lines from our pillows? Are we hoping those don’t show up?

I think the answer lies much deeper and truer than those questions ask. I think we are hoping to see someone amazing. We are hoping that today picks up where yesterday left off (if yesterday was a great day). Or we are hoping that today is completely different and altogether better. Either way, we want today to be great. And most likely we want to be a factor in its greatness.

Whether we admit it or not, each of us wants to be great. We want to know our lives matter or make a difference. Life has a way of bringing us back to an all too common reality. My question though is this, “Is reality real?” If we wake up everyday hoping today is the day where we succeed, win, achieve more or whatever your goal might be, then doesn’t it make sense that we were made for more…?

Why do some people impact the world at such a young age and others do not? Could it be our drive? I wouldn’t put money on that one. What about our personality type? Maybe, but I would hold out for something else.

If I had to take an educated guess I would say passion. And then, what is our “Why”. If you believe in something with every fiber of your being and have a reason for it coming to fruition, then and only then can you make it happen. Nothing happens without action. Where there is no belief and action…dreams do not become reality.

Bruce Lee changed martial arts forever, because of his belief in a better fighting philosophy. Jesus Christ changed the world, because of his love for humanity. Both died before they saw the age of 35! There is still time for you to realize your dreams and become the person you were created to be.

From now on, when you get out of bed trust yourself to who you want to be and not who you might currently think you are. Surround yourself with positive people. Read books and magazines that inspire you. Keep learning and growing. Always be a student and self educate yourself. Exercise your body and brain. Create something new. Go somewhere new. Try something new.

But most of all…Stop fighting your current fear of greatness and who you were really meant to be. Dare yourself to fail. Learn from your mistakes and press on. We are waiting for you to change the world!

Baby Steps to Success – by Brad Rhame

Life is about baby steps.  So many of us never do anything, because we are “All or nothing” people.  That is one of the worst kinds of thinking we could nurture.  If you decided to do 365 pushups in one year, then wouldn’t it be easier to do 1 a day instead of 91 over four days?  I know…plus one more, but you get the point.  It is easier to get in shape slowly and over time, than it is quickly.

Whenever we go “all or nothing,” it doesn’t take long to go back to doing nothing after doing it all.  It is too much stress on the body and brain.  We get pumped up about achieving something great, but do not take the time to think it through, over the long haul.  We start psychologically breaking down.  We start to realize that it is impossible to keep this kind of energy going.  Then….as soon as we mess up a couple times or slack off…we Quit.  Possibly, never to return or at least not for a long time.

If you want to be a great writer, then you have to start with a sentence.  Then a paragraph.  Then a page. A chapter…and finally a book.  Work on writing one great sentence each day you wake up.  After a week or a month, move on to writing a paragraph each day.  Slowly but surely you will have your book.

The same philosophy goes for anything you want to do in life.  Baby steps will get you to where you want to be.  If you don’t believe me, then watch the movie What About Bob.  A funny movie, but it changed the way I looked at life and achieving success.  Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is your success.

Think small and grow big!

What Makes Great Actors Great? – by Brad Rhame

How many actors/actresses would you consider great?  What is it that they do that makes them amazing?  There is a saying that goes, “Proper Preparation Produces Perfect Performance.”  I couldn’t agree more. BUT… What is  it that makes them exceptional?  Could it be that every time they do a scene they can go back behind the camera and watch how they did?  If you saw yourself everyday on video, would you change the way you walk, talk, stand, smile or even sit?  What about how you dress, approach someone or shake hands?  If you could see yourself as they see you, would you change yourself to be better?

What the camera, director and other co-stars do for those in acting; our friends, family, bosses, coworkers and yes even the camera can tell us how we are doing.  THE word I am thinking of is Accountability.  Whenever we are held accountable for our actions, we strive to meet and achieve those standards.  That is what makes writing down our goals so important and so hard. People don’t like to fail and we know that by not telling others about our goals, it leaves us a way out to quit, slack off or cheat.

If you want to have your best life going forward, then you need to realize that things need to change.  There needs to be accountability in your life.  The goal in accountability is to find those that will push you and not make fun of you.  Too many others, who are permanent failures, want company and will gladly pull you down to their level. Accountability is not about guilt, but rather motivation!  Seek out those leaders, friends and family members who are going to motivate and inspire you to achieve greatness.  Everyone has greatness inside of them, we just have to find a way of pulling, pushing and catapulting it out of us.

So, the next time you see a great movie think about all the accountability it took to make those actors/actresses that way.  And now you know what makes great actors great.  Go and do the same!

Success Starts with You – by Brad Rhame

Success starts with you.  If you have a major goal that you are wanting to tackle, then you need to start off small.  Sometimes we get so caught up in the final outcome that we miss the journey it takes to get us there.  Maybe you are having trouble knowing where to start or doubting that you can even achieve your dream. If this is you, then take a minute to digest these next few lines.  In order to feel a sense of accomplishment you have to start achieving something…anything.  Maybe you have a dream of owning your own business, running a marathon, or writing a book.  The only thing is that it seems too daunting.  Then pick something entirely different to achieve. You might be thinking…”Where is he going with this?”  But let me explain.  In order to muster the courage to start something big, you have to believe in yourself.  Sometimes it takes a sense of accomplishment in another part of your life, in order to begin a new goal.  This might be as simple as remembering back to a time when you did achieve or accomplish something great.  It might also mean starting something new. Those who have succeeded recently have the confidence to do it again.  The more you achieve the more you try.  So, if you need a winning track record before you jump into this new dream feet first, then by all means pick something small and keep moving forward until that day comes when you are ready to step out and say “I’m ready”. Success starts with you!
